healthy hangover

It’s party season and that often means that we indulge a little more than we should. However, the added problem with overdoing the drinks at the office Christmas party or family celebrations is that the next day’s hangover leaves us craving unhealthy foods full of fat, salt and sugar. So, to make sure that one night of over-indulgence doesn’t turn into a weekend of excess, here we have some healthier ways to make yourself feel better the morning after the night before.

1. Drink Some Water

Not only is alcohol full of calories, but it is very dehydrating too. But, you’re probably feeling bad enough already so we don’t want to lecture you too much. Instead, we recommend that you drink a big glass of water as soon as you wake up to rehydrate and flush your system. If you’re craving something a little sweeter, forget sports drinks or soda - instead, mix some Phen Drink into your water. Phen Drink adds the great taste of green tea with the natural no-calorie sweetness of Lo Han fruit and stevia, and with it, you'll benefit from an added metabolism boost and appetite suppression at the same time!

2. Add Some Herbs

If your head is fuzzy and aching then adding some anti-inflammatory basil into your diet will work wonders. Water infused with basil and sweet mango is a great way to de-fuzz your head; take a large pitcher, rip about seven basil leaves in half and toss them in, then chop a large ripe mango and add that to the pitcher. Cover with ice and then fill the pitcher with water and leave for an hour. If your hangover is more of the queasy stomach kind, then add some mint leaves to your water to regulate your system and help your stomach recover.

3. Avoid The Grease

Many people may swear by fatty fried foods for a hangover breakfast, but there’s no scientific proof that grease will cure a hangover, and in fact, it will probably just give you heartburn as your already overloaded system is trying to cope with last night’s excess. You need to get food into your system to soak up the alcohol but that doesn’t mean a greasy plate full of 2000 calories is the answer - instead, stick to light foods that are easier to digest like whole grain toast or cereal with milk for breakfast.

4. Top Up Your Vitamins

There are a lot of hangover ‘cures’ in a bottle these days, but there’s very little evidence to back up claims that they actually work. Instead, doctors and professors who have studied the effects of alcohol, recommend taking a multivitamin such as Phen Vites to restore the crucial nutrients your body may have lost during a binge. Phen Vites contain vitamins A, C, and E to boost your immune system and improve your health and complexion from the inside out, making you feel and look better. You’ll also benefit from a wealth of B-vitamins such as the energy-boosting B12, as well as mood enhancers like magnesium, folate and selenium.

5. Turn Up The Heat

No, we’re not talking central heating, we want you to turn up the heat on your food! It’s thought that adding a kick to your lunch will burn that hangover right out of you as the thermogenic reaction of spicy foods gets your metabolism up and running and helps your body to flush away toxins. But, don’t rush out to the drive-thru to get a greasy burrito, instead opt for healthier meal with a kick, such as cheese omelet with jalapeños. If you’re not used to spicy foods, you should de-seed the jalapeños, or add some salsa to your eggs. For an extra metabolism boost when you’re feeling well enough to put the focus back on weight loss, we recommend adding the metabolism-boosting weight loss supplement Phen Caps to your daily routine. Just like spicy foods, Phen Caps contains ingredients which cause a thermogenic heating effect to increase your metabolic rate as well as ingredients which activate your nervous system to suppress your appetite and reduce cravings.

6. Load Up On Carbs

If you’re on a low-carb diet like Atkins or Paleo then this isn’t for you, but worrying about carbs is so 2005 anyway – you should be thinking about what your body needs to feel better, and that’s some hearty comfort food. As long as you keep an eye on the calorie intake and go all natural, you can’t go wrong with whole grain pasta or a baked potato. Add in plenty of veggies and you’ve got yourself a healthy filling meal which will soak up the alcohol and get you feeling better in no time.

7. Get Some Sleep

Alcohol will put you to sleep quickly, but when it begins to wear off, the withdrawal your body feels can disrupt sleep and jolt you awake. If you have the luxury of ‘sleeping it off’ the next day, take the opportunity as your foggy brain and aching body will thank you. To reset your sleep patterns and get you on the road to recovery, the serotonin-booster 5-HTP, as found in Phen Vites, will regulate your sleep patterns to help you recover from last night’s restless alcohol-induced sleep and lift your mood in time for work on Monday.

Hopefully you’ll start to feel better soon, but remember for next time that the best cure for a hangover is to drink less in the first place, so try alternating your alcoholic drinks with a glass of water, and top up wine or spirits with plenty of soda water to feel like you’ve drunk more….cheers!!
